Elevating the quality of life within our community for a stronger, healthier future.

Community Health Workers
The Community Health Worker Program was created to provide free assistance and resources to individuals impacted by COVID-19. Over time, it has expanded to address the community's broader health needs. All staff are certified as Community Health Workers (CHWs), trained to support community members through resource navigation and by addressing the social determinants that affect overall health. The program offers connections to vital services such as financial, medical, food, and employment resources, as well as food and housing assistance, chronic disease prevention education, access to healthcare services, and personalized health coaching to promote long-term well-being.

Healthy Minds of Centro Unido
Healthy Minds of Centro Unido was established to raise awareness about mental health in North Carolina. Our mission is to educate the community about mental health issues and their impact while working to eliminate the stigma surrounding mental health. By fostering open conversations, we aim to empower our community to support one another and seek help when needed.

We achieve this through trainings, forums, and workshops facilitated by certified QPR Suicide Prevention and Mental Health First Aid staff.
In partnership with Sanarai, we offer free therapy sessions with licensed professionals who understand the language and culture of our community. These confidential virtual sessions are tailored to meet individual needs, providing a safe space for mental health support.

Please note: We are NOT certified to provide mental health diagnoses or treatment.

Hands of Benjamin
The Hands of Benjamin program is our food pantry initiative designed to support families experiencing food insecurity in McDowell County. With a population of 40,000, 16% of residents live below the poverty line, and through this program, we provide food distribution, clothing, and hygiene & cleaning products. We partner with local food banks and farmers to offer fresh produce and support the small local economy. As part of CULA, we serve over 250 families biweekly, and we are deeply grateful for the volunteers who dedicate their time to assist with packing and distribution. To learn more about volunteer opportunities, please visit our contact page or reach out to our program director, Lorena.
